Who is k. krithivasan? All you need to know about the New CEO of TCS

Krishnan (K) Krithivasan is a New CEO of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), one of the largest global IT services companies. He was born in Chennai, India, in 1947. And earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in 1969. He then went on to complete his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1971.

Rajesh Gopinathan, the ex MD and CEO of Tata Consultancy Services, resigned on Thursday (March 16, 2023). Subject to shareholder approval, K Krithivasan has been named as the CEO designate. And he will assume the top position after September 15 of this year.
K Krithivasan has been proposed by the Board as the CEO Designate, effective March 16, 2023.

In the next fiscal year, Krithivasan will take over as Managing Director and CEO from Rajesh Gopinathan, according to the announcement.

In Tata Consultancy Services, Krithivasan is the President and Global Head of the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance Business Unit.

He is in charge of developing and implementing growth plans, optimizing financial performance, increasing market positioning, and increasing consumer mindshare.

A quote from the company’s website states, “He has assisted significant clients with digital transformation, change management cycle acceleration, creating value beyond cost optimization, and establishing IT programme control.

Krithivasan join TCS in 1972 as a software engineer. And over the next few decades, he rose through the ranks to become the CEO in 1996. During his tenure as CEO, he led the company’s expansion into new markets, including Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. He also oversaw TCS’s transformation into a digital services provider. With a focus on new technologies such as cloud computing, analytics, and automation.

Under Krithivasan’s leadership, TCS became the first Indian company to achieve revenues of over $1 billion.

 

He was also instrumental in establishing TCS’s presence in the United States. Which is now its largest market. Krithivasan retired from TCS in 2005 after a successful 33-year career with the company.

In addition to his work at TCS, Krithivasan serve on the boards of several other companies. This including Tata Industries and Tata Teleservices. He has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honors, in 2007.

Krithivasan is widely regarded as a pioneer of the Indian IT industry. And his leadership and vision have helped to shape the industry into what it is today.
