Passengers may face some flights cancellations, delayed or moved to another airport at Dubai International Airport.

This is not the first time Dubai Airport doing refurbishment works, in 2014 also northen runway was shut for 45 days. Though that time there was 2.5 percent passengers drop due to runway maintenance work. All cargo aircraft’s moved to Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central and face 13.3 percent of drop due to runway maintenance work at Dubai International Airport.

Airlines have already started working on updating their schedule. This step is taken due to the refurbishment of a major runway at the airport. Flight may divert to other airports or can be cancel.

Few Big Airlines have already confirmed that they will reduce the number of flights during that time. Emirates is the first who took this step. Emirates already confirm that it will drop some of flights. And reduce the frequencies on certain routes during the maintenance period.

However Airlines have already updated their customers to keep checking the flights schedule as maintenance work will start next year that is in 2019.

During this maintenance work at Dubai International Airport, runway will remain close. Though passengers may face some difficulty in flight delay (Arrival or Departure) at the airport.

 

Emirates will cancel certain flights during this maintenance work at the airport.

Changes in the Flights schedule are in progress and customers are advised to check with their travel agents or Airlines officials websites to avoid any issues in future.

Cancel or affected flights may be diverted at The Dubai World Centeral airport(DWC). This airport is located at Jabel Ali Free Zone which is 55 kilometer away from Dubai International Airport.

Cargo and General aviation operations will be perform at DWC airport for the smooth services.

Maintenance Work at Dubai International Airport

Dubai International Airport already inform in February its plan to close the southern runway for refurbishment works for better service to its customers. The Major work will involve the placement of around 60 thousand tonnes of asphalt. Along with 8,000 cubic meters of concrete to strengthen the runway. This will help to make adjacent taxiways for better movement.

Engineers will install approximate 800 kilometers of primary cables and replace 5,500 runway lights with more modern, economic and environmentally friendly technology.

At present about 1,100 arrive and depart from Dubai International Airport. This make the airport one of the busiest airport in the world. Dubai airport officials inform that around 43% of flights movement will affect during the runway refurbishment work.

Flydubai airlines officials inform that they will update their customers for the updated flight status. They request customers also to check the flight status before booking ticket in advance for next year.

In 2019, from 16th April 2019 to 30th May 2019, Dubai’s International Airport will close the southern runway for upgrade works. All the related airlines are inform to reduce the airline frequency during these time duration. Also note that Only one runway will be operating during this time period.
